Passing the digital mic to youth mental health leaders

The Challenge

“In most social movements, we insist that those who are affected speak for themselves. Those who hold the experience hold the space. Yet strangely, when it comes to youth, we often let others do the talking.” -Jack.org

Suicide is the leading health-related cause of death for youth in Canada. Jack.org, a Canadian mental health charity, empowers youth to build supportive communities and advocate for better mental health systems.

Amid a rebrand, they recognized the need for a digital presence that reflected their updated identity and served both youth and supporters looking to engage. Most importantly, the site needed to align with Jack.org’s most pivotal value: youth voices at the forefront. While the ThreeSixtyEight team brought web expertise and the Jack.org team brought organizational knowledge to the table, we would need to pull up additional chairs for the youth leading the fight for a healthier future.

The Solution

Youth voice, personality, and lived experience - front and center

We collaborated with youth and adult stakeholders on the Jack.org team to design a digital experience that celebrates youth leadership and showcases diverse stories through videos, quotes, and vibrant visuals that capture the essence of their new brand.

Balancing two audiences—youth and supporters—we crafted targeted menus, optimized mobile navigation for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, and streamlined flows for getting involved and donating.

Rigorous user testing with internal and external youth groups led to continuous refinements, ensuring the site met their needs,.

The result is a platform that amplifies youth voices while serving all who engage with Jack.org’s mission.

Nerding Out Together

ThreeSixtyEight’s web team participates in “Nerd Outs” to ideate based on strategic directives. When discussing the Jack.org story, it was clear that the youth leaders were the narrators. Inspired by websites that centered youth, we focused on showcasing diverse perspectives that reflect Canada’s cultural richness. This approach ensured Jack.org’s story felt genuine and inclusive.

From Brand Guide to Web Experience

Leveraging the power of the Lumos CSS design framework for Webflow, we translated the Jack.org visual brand into a scalable and consistent experience across all touchpoints. This affords the Jack.org team the flexibility to easily build and launch new sections or full web pages with confidence.

For Ages 13-99+

Balancing the needs of youth and donors required close collaboration with program and development teams. A targeted menu immediately guides users toward their goals. We optimized for mobile to engage youth and focused on desktop usability for supporters, with CRO tailored to program sign-ups for youth and donations or outreach for supporters. This thoughtful approach ensures the site meets the unique needs of both audiences, empowering youth to take action while providing supporters with clear pathways to make an impact.

Bringing Youth to the Table

To ensure the redesigned Jack.org website truly centered youth, we conducted extensive user testing with internal and external youth audiences during both the prototype and development stages. These sessions provided valuable insights into usability, navigation, and content, helping us fine-tune the site to meet their needs authentically and effectively.
